Biography
Mathieu is originally from Cap Pele, and to say that he is from a musical family is an understatement to say the least. His parents and grand parents have always been active in the musical scene and have been members of various country and bluegrass groups. He is one of those fortunate musicians who grew up in music. By the age of 12, Mathieu played in his first Rock Group « Hazard » and the folk group « Musik ». At the tender age of 17, Mathieu was chosen to be the primary accompanist for fiddling sensation Samantha Robichaud with whom he continues to perform with on internationally to this day. Together they have played the ECMA’s in 2002, 2003 and 2005 where they won two awards. They also participated in the International Alliance Folk Festival in San Diego in February 2004 and in Montreal in 2005. In March of 2005 they toured the United States. (Maine, New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Nashville, etc.) In 2006 they toured Alberta. Mathieu also spent a year in the music program of UdeM to further his musical knowledge and is today one of the most respected bluegrass players in the region.
He is just as comfortable handling a guitar, banjo or mandolin. A devoted teacher, Mathieu is a invaluable source of bluegrass and accompaniment techniques, and will help you master this captivating style of music.
