It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Metro Moncton School of Music. Our school is founded on two basic principles: Teacher competency, backed by our own specialized training program to meet our school requirements, and quality instruction accessible to everyone, with an approach developed to meet each student ’s individual needs. The roots of our school date back to 1980. It started as just one small teaching studio in the back of a music store called La Guitare situated on Church st. in Moncton. There was only one teacher back then, Regina Cote who still works with us today. The school began to expand in 1992, when Donald Richard, a recent graduate from the U de M music department purchased La Guitare and its music lesson program. The goal was to provide the community with a reputable music school that would teach many different styles and genres, and would serve the anglophone and francophone population of Moncton. Donald surrounded himself with qualified and motivated instructors who gave the school the momentum to take it to its actual state of development. In 2000, our music school separated entirely from La Guitare to become the METRO MONCTON SCHOOL OF MUSIC. Our student count is now well over 750. More than 25 teachers occupy our teaching studios offering instruction in violin, piano, guitar, bass guitar, voice and percussion. They cover various styles such as classical, flamenco, folk, rock, country, jazz, heavy metal and pop. For 10 consecutive years our school has hosted Rock Camp; a summer camp concept that we developed to let our young music students apply what they learn in their lessons. To that we have added a Classical Camp done in collaboration with the teachers from the UdeM music department. All camps take place on the university campus during summer months. Other points of interest include our Musicians Workshop series. These workshops are hosted by our own Matt Leger who specializes in working with combos. For those who may be interested we’ve recently upgraded our facilities to include digital studios available to all of our students. Our curriculum also now offers a series of recitals that will take place in May and June, giving those who are interested a chance to perform in public. Year after year, thanks to the competence, determination and dedication of our teachers, we have earned our students’ confidence. The Metro Moncton School of music continues to expand and to strive to find new ways to better serve music and musicians. It is these objectives that guide us today and will continue to guide us tomorrow. Xavier RobichaudDirector of the Metro Moncton School of Music |
